Midnight Outlaw

Midnight Outlaw is the second image released in the “Midnight Series” collection. Photographed in Elk Island National Park, I had many trips over two years trying to find a bison under the light of a full moon. After little success, I decided it was time to try once more.

Arriving back at the park, I immediately knew this time was different. There were bison everywhere, some being the largest males I had seen up until this point. Over the week, I studied and photographed various herds. During this research period, something caught my eye. One giant lone bison was holding his ground against any younger males that tried to come close. This was his territory and he would protect it at all costs. The sheer dominance painted in my mind was so strong, I knew he’d be the perfect subject.

On the night of the full moon, the temperatures plummeted to -35c. Proper conditions to show the frosty breath and resilience of the powerful animal. I slowly approached the grazing beast, yet he seemed unfazed by my presence to the point where he wouldn’t even look up. All I needed was a quick raise of the head. Then in a moment that will stay with me forever, he over-delivered on this wish. For at least 30 seconds (which seemed like an eternity) he locked eyes with me, staring down the barrel of my lens before letting out a brawny grunt. I knew it was his way of telling me “this is my land”. What an impressive display of authority and intimidation.

A note when ordering, at the 84” size of Midnight Outlaw, the bison is to scale as large as he was in real life.

The Process Behind Fine Art Aluminum

White Aluminum: All of our pieces are made using a special printing process where ink is heat transferred directly onto a single sheet of white aluminum. We use this aluminum due to the luminescence of the metal surface and guarantee of lasting a century without any fading. The finished product has a brightness, colour vibrancy and clarity that cannot be rivalled with any other printing technique. Each piece also comes with a backing that gives the photo depth and allows it to float elegantly on your wall.

Finish: Each piece is finished with a unique Anti-Reflective coating developed specifically for fine art photography. The anti-reflective finish is perfect for a wide range of lighting situations while still producing a bright and vibrant image. The finish also includes a special UV coating to fully protect the piece from exposure to direct sunlight.
