HOPE RISES
For over a decade, I’ve been visiting Abraham Lake to see the spectacular aspens surrounded by glacial water. Yet, in all those visits, I've never encountered a scene so inspirational and captivating. I immediately canceled my plans and focused on this little “tree of life” for several days. Each day, it grew more and more brilliant, starting out as green and yellow before morphing like a butterfly into vibrant fall colors.
I couldn’t help but think that among the giant towering aspens, all of which had shed their leaves, this single tree stood out as a sole survivor. What started as impossible odds in a challenging environment, is now flourishing in the face of adversity. With deep roots and an even deeper sense of resilience, this living metaphor is not just growing, but thriving, despite the odds.
ALWAYS WITH YOU
In a remote corner of southern France, two oaks stand together in quiet strength as lifelong companions. Yet, it's not just the oaks that stand eternal; the stars above mirror this bond, offering constant light through every season of life. Like the gentle pull of gravity that keeps the cosmos in harmony, these elements remind us of the quiet support we draw from those who walk beside us. Within our deepest connections, timeless wisdom is always with you.
NEVER ALONE
In the lavender fields of France, under the Milky Way's ethereal glow, a single oak stands timeless and resilient. Forever connected to guidance from above, it reminds us that our greatest ally is the spirit that whispers, "We are never alone."
The path forward is always with us, just as the heavens shine down when we need it most, this light illuminates our journey ahead.
ECHOES OF MIDNIGHT
At the beginning of 2025, I set a goal for the year: to capture something so elusive and rare that it might take months or even years to achieve.
It was time for the next iteration in the Midnight series.
I started tracking wolves early in the year, which was fairly easy to do in the snow.
As spring arrived, I began to recognize patterns in their movements, slowly figuring out the flow and direction of their daily habits.
By the end of the year, fall was upon us. I set out that evening under the light of the October super-moon. With brand-new camera technology in hand, I decided to check out a popular animal trail. When I arrived... tracks everywhere! I had waited all year for these elements to align. Tonight could be it.
I settled in for the night after seeing a herd of elk pass through at sunset. The air cooled as the moon rose.
All was quiet for the next six hours until I heard something at 1:36 a.m.
Two wolves! Illuminated only by the bright moon, they moved with a hurried pace.
By the time I had focused my lens, they vanished into the trees. My opportunity had come and gone.
Only seconds later, a black wolf emerged from the shadows, larger than the first two.
His pace was slow and confident as he took time to catch my scent.
He looked at me for only a second. In that time, I was able to focus on him for one single frame.
